I listened to Danny Chedrawe's presentation three times. It was to be generous a bit 'meandering'. I wouldn't sign him up for a Ted Talk anytime soon ....

Perhaps it is one of those cases where we all see and hear what we want to?

I heard a tremendous amount of self-aggrandizement and an acknowledgement that he has been 'preaching' to council. I did not hear any specific reference to the need for immigration. I did hear various references to the fundamental need for growth - ways to allow thousands and thousands more people to live on the Peninsula. Some of it was in code - "We need this or else", but what is this exactly?

Developers are in the growth business so I sort of get that. The rest of us are not. We should be in the greater good business and growth per se should never be our objective. We need balance and affordability. A city that works on behalf of the greatest % of residents in the greatest number of ways. Developers are an important part but not exclusive to that discussion for Halifax.

Knowing virtually nothing about development am I allowed to say ?

1) I think Halifax is in some respects 'over built' right now? I think rental and lease rates will have to come down.

2) Never in my lifetime has Halifax been so popular and unpopular both at the same time. Visitors from away love it. Nova Scotians who live elsewhere detest and dread it ... Like so much else, Halifax has become polarizing.

Yes, you do get to say! You are the world's leading expert on what you think is nice, useful, and enduring. For better or worse, it's a representative government, not a regime where only experts can know and act. And yes, intentional or not, I got a lot of 'or else' vibe, even as he was lining up for his five minutes on the clock, just like the hoi polloi.
